It Ain’t Over

Tonight, I did a little cupping.  I find that when the hours grow late, but I still have a hefty hankering to taste something delicious of the freshly-brewed-coffee variety, cupping does the trick.  What’s more, it’s insanely practical, as I was doing a little roast profile tinkering and wanted to make sure that I was getting the results that I wanted.

On the table was a couple of different roasts with roast dates nearly two weeks apart, slightly different roast profiles, and slightly different roast levels.  They were, however, the same coffee: last year’s crop of Ethiopia Beloya Selection Eight.

The batch from a couple of weeks ago was slightly darker, maybe a City+ roast.  The batch from last night was a lighter City roast.  I won’t detail the profiles used with these, but suffice it to say that they were fairly similar.

Since the primary reasons for cupping those two batches weren’t to evaluate and compare so much as taste and confirm profile quality, I’ll say this: both were delicious, and I don’t think I’m “over” naturals.  At least, not delicious ones.
